All About Me
Welcome to Fourth grade! I'm looking forward to my 20th year of teaching. I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor's of Education.  I am beginning my 14th year of teaching 4th grade.  I previously taught 3rd and 2nd grade.  I will be your child's Math and Science teacher this year, and Mrs. Denison will be their Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.

My goal for every learner in our classroom is to:
  • Master Fourth grade Math and Science skills
  • Strengthen problem solving
  • Do his or her personal best academically and socially

My role as your child's teacher will be to:

  • Provide learning experiences that allow for discoveries, connections, and mastery of concepts
  • Encourage,  Inspire and Require your child to be responsible 4th grade learners
  • Maintain a warm and friendly class environment that allows the students to continue developing as confident learners and collaborators
  • Work in a partnership with you to ensure your child's personal best is achieved

I want to thank you for entrusting me with the care of your child this year.   I look forward to a year of memories and success

Sincerely,

Pam Pizzino

Math and Science Expectations

4th Grade Math “101”

Welcome to 4th Grade Math! Below you will find the “ins and outs” of 4th Grade Math.  Our goal is to keep you informed so you know what is expected of your child as a 4th grade math learner! If you have any questions about any of the information that follows, don’t hesitate to email, call or send a note. We know that by working together in a partnership your child will achieve optimal success.

Daily Math Review Practice

The students start their day with a warm-up that is a Math Review practice.  This allows them the opportunity to keep past skills sharp Every other Friday a there is a Math Review Quiz (counts as a daily grade) that contains problems like the Math Review warm-ups.

Math Journal

Your child’s Math Journal is one of the most important Math tools this year! Math notes, vocabulary, practice problems, foldables and diagrams are contained in the Math Journal.  There is even a Table of Contents at the beginning! Your child may use it as a reference tool on daily work AND homework.   It is important that he/she copies any missing notes when he/she returns from being absent.

Grading policy

The above is as stated in the MISD Elementary Grading Policy Guidelines.

Late Work

Late work will be accepted up to 5 days after due date.  Ten points per day will be deducted from the late work. (MISD policy)

Homework

Homework is generally assigned Monday-Thursday in the form of a worksheet.  Sometimes it will not be a worksheet, but rather an activity in which your child is asked to make a “real world” math connection.  (such as being an “Angle Detective”)  When possible, they will be given time to start it in class, and on test days the students will be given the evening off.  It’s our goal that homework takes no more than 20 minutes each evening and reinforces concepts learned in class.  Multiplication math fact practice may also be assigned to your child as needed.  It’s important our 4th graders become Master Multipliers!

Conference Time

Monday - Friday  8:30-9:15

Conferences can also be scheduled before school at 7:45 or after school until 4:15.  Phone conferences are always an option too, if that is best for your schedule.
