Welcome:

My name is Susan Poppell and I am the publications teacher at Lake Creek High School.  I am excited to be teaching photojournalism, journalism and working with the yearbook and newspaper staffs.  This will be my 31th year in education and my 13th year at MISD.  I attended Kilgore Cllege and Texas State University where I received a degree in Journalism and Dance Education. We will be continuing to work on the yearbook remotely.  Please check Band for information about what we will be doing while out of school.  Stay Safe and together we will get through this, Mrs. Poppell

 

The yearbook staff is responsible for the theme development, design, writing, photography and sale of the yearbook.

The following requirements need to be meet to be a member of the yearbook staff.

  • Students must meet all deadlines.
  • Students must follow the guidelines set up by Mrs. Poppell and the editors.
  • Students must understand that this class requires outside of school time.
  • Students are responsible for proofing their work and making changes necessary.
  • Students are responsible for their assignments.
  • Student computers are provided for yearbook work only.
  • Students must personally check the spelling of every students name that is put on the page.
  • Students are responsible for selling 20 yearbooks and $600.00 worth of ads.
  • Student must sign out when leaving the room for any reason.
  • Students will be respectful of the people they are working with in class and outside the classroom.

The students in photojournalism will learn basic photography skills, composition, how to use their camera and editing.  The students will be responsible for taking photos for their projects and school pictures for the yearbook and newspaper.

The following concepts are taught in photojournalism:

  • What is photojournalism
  • Ethics
  • Parts of the camera
  • How to use your camera
  • Composition
  • How to photograph people
  • How to photograph landscapes
  • How to photograph sports
  • How to photograph objects
  • How to photograph school events
  • How to edit photographs in photo shop.

Photojournalism is offered to students in 10-12 grade.  This is a project based class. Student are responsible for taking photos, editing presenting and evaluating their work and the work of their peers.  Students will be responsible for 2-3 projects each six weeks.  They will also take  pictures at school and school events.
