I am so excited to be returning to the classroom after taking a break from teaching to be a stay at home mom.  I have 15 years of middle school experience so I know the expectations and challenges your child will face in the coming years.  My goal is to help my students foster a love for learning, continue to develop good study habits and develop positive communication skills.  Through challenging experiences in the classroom, they will grow in their self confidence and problem solving abilities.  I believe each and every one of my students can be successful and I am committed to doing everything I can to help them achieve that success.  It is a special treat to team teach with Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Wheat.  They are absolutely amazing and bring years of teaching experience to our team.  I am teaching Science to all of our students and Social Studies to my homeroom kiddos.

On a personal note, I grew up in Farmington, New Mexico in the northwest corner of the state near the beautiful Rocky Mountains.  I earned my BA from Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO and MA from New Mexico State University.  Although I love the beautiful mountains and four distinct seasons in NM, I am thankful I landed in Texas after marrying my amazing husband in 2000.  That's right, this coming June will be our 20th anniversary!  We have been blessed with three wonderful daughters.  Rachel (11th) and Sarah Grace (9th) both attend LCHS and Leah (6th) is at OHJH so we are a family full of LIONS!  We are active in our church, enjoy watching our girls in their various activities and enjoy spending time with friends and family.  In my spare time, I like to do all sorts of outdoor activities, travel and read.  I'm looking forward to a great year with all of my students.  Please let me know if you have any questions or I can be of help in any way.

Big Hugs,

April Hagen

I have a new book that I LOVE.  I wanted to share it with my students.  I encourage you to pick up a hard copy, e-copy or audiobook from the library or book seller.  However, if you would like to listen to it and don't mind my amateur attempt at reading/recording the book, you are welcome to follow along. I hope you enjoy the story of Aven, a 13 year old armless girl who saves an amusement park, solves a mystery and faces her fears with courage and determination.  The Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus will bring a smile to your face and inspire you to be courageous, kind and push yourself to do more than you think you can.  Enjoy!
