A little about me....

I LOVE LEARNING! My goal is to learn something everyday! Family time is my favorite way to spend weekends.   I graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi and I've been teaching since 1987, with a 9 year gap spent being a stay at home mom. I married my high school sweetheart for 35 years. We moved to Texas in 2005 and couldn't be happier. I have two children, Tyler and Annie, who both graduated from Montgomery and are now married to beautiful souls. Annie is actually a new addition to the Keenan family as a 3rd grade LA teacher.  I am one proud mama! I have to mention my fur family Buddy, our rescue dog, who brings such joy with his crazy bark and antics.

I enjoy reading and some of my favorite books are: God Grew Tired of Us, Left to Tell, Horse Soldiers,

Lone Survivor, Forgiving the Dead Man Walking, and so so so many more. :)

My hope for the classroom each day..........

Fun….I want them to love learning!!!

Challenging……Growth comes when we leave our comfort zone.

Encouraging….I want them to know that I believe in their potential….EVERY
ONE of them has a voice and place in this world. It’s my job to help them find theirs.

Accepting….Their uniqueness needs to be celebrated.

A  READER… Readers can go places they’ve never been, know people they’ve never met, and become a better version of themselves than they could have ever imagined.

And lastly, but maybe most importantly, I strive to continuously be a student myself.  I want my students to know we are a part of the same community. I want them to look at this world with curious eyes.  I want them to WANT to know more, do more, see more………be more!

Language Arts has many components.  It's reading, but with that comes fluency, word study, decoding, and using many critical thinking skills for comprehension.  It is also, grammar, listening, spelling, and writing.  Over the years many parents have asked me, "How can I help my child?" My answer is always the same. READ!  :) They need to see you reading, let them read to you, read with them, and talk about what they're reading. Like anything, it takes practice to become more proficient.
