Welcome MES Bearcats!

I am truly excited about the 2019-2020 school year! This will be my sixth year in Montgomery ISD as a teacher; however I was a Montgomery Bear, also.  My teaching assignment is 3rd grade Math and Science with Mrs. Riley as my partner teacher. We are going to have a blast teaching our 3rd graders this year! I am excited to be back with little MES Bearcats!

I graduated from Sam Houston State University with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I have four amazing boys.  Dustynn is 11 and is in 5th grade, Sam is 7 years old and is in 2nd grade, Leelan is 5 years old and is in Kindergarten, and Bennet is 1 year old and will be a little Bearcat soon. My loving husband works as a general contractor and loves creating all of my classroom furniture needs. My wonderful mother retired from teaching in Montgomery after 34 years.  She is embarking on a new journey and loves being a full-time grandmother. We are a BEAR/BEARCAT family!

LET'S GROW THAT GROWL!!!

As you know, this will be a year that challenges your child!  Our class will be working extremely hard on understanding, learning and memorizing the multiplication facts.  In order for students to be successful this year, a mastery of these facts is crucial.  The math curriculum this year is rigorous, and if your child has their basic multiplication facts mastered it will make future concepts less challenging for them.

As we begin learning about the concepts of multiplication we will continue practicing our facts.  Your child will have a weekly multiplication fact log to record their daily practice time and fact set.  This log will be due on Friday as your child’s homework and require 10 minutes of practice per day.  This practice can be completed on a computer game, flashcards, writing out the facts, memorizing skip counting, and/or practicing saying them with an adult.  There are lots of fun ways to learn your multiplication facts.  Here are just a few: www.multiplication.com, www.mathaids.com, www.sumdog.com and you can also download lots of games on your smart phones and tablets.

Your child will have a bi-weekly, timed quiz to assess their comprehension of these facts.   In order to motivate our students, we have just introduced our Multiplication Ice Cream Sundae Celebration!  This is an incentive program to encourage students to memorize their facts.  Students will work toward earning ice cream with multiple yummy toppings by mastering their multiplication quizzes with a 90% or above!  You can view your student’s progress by checking their fact chart in their daily folder.

Thank you for understanding the importance of family help and support at home.  Having someone at home that not only believes in them, but also helps them reach their goals will make their success that much greater!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you,

Mrs. Torman

This is a piece of our science curriculum called StemScopedia.  It is a short reading with great vocabulary and extension information from our lessons.  I will post the unit and you may choose to read it at home with your child as a review or for more information.  Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

Please check in your child's Bearcat folder for their Password Log In information.
