6th grade students at OHJH are invited to attend the OHJH Read Aloud Lunch Club. During A lunch, students will take their lunches to the library to eat and listen to Dr. Fick read the book, Harbor Me. The Read Aloud Lunch Club will begin meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26 and will continue meeting until the book is finished. The summary of the book is below.
It all starts when six kids are sent to a room at school for a weekly chat - by themselves, with no adults to listen in. They name the room room the ARTT Room (short for "A Room to Talk"), and discover it's safe to talk about what's bothering them--everything from Esteban's father's deportation and Haley's father's incarceration to Amari's fears of racial profiling and Ashton's adjustment to his changing family fortunes. They share a deep desire for family history and a sense of belonging. When the six are together, they can express the feelings and fears they have to hide from the rest of the world. And together, they can grow braver and more ready for the rest of their lives.
