Welcome to Bear Country
Welcome to Montgomery Middle
Dr. Fick is the librarian at Montgomery Middle School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from the University of Texas at Dallas, a Master of Library Science, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership with a cognate in Library Science from Sam Houston State University. She has 35 years experience in education. Dr. Fick and her husband have lived in Montgomery for over twenty years. She has been blessed with eight grandchildren. Her daughter has followed in her footsteps and is also a teacher in Montgomery. Dr. Fick loves reading, watching movies, playing with her grandchildren, and petting her cat, Fiver.
Ms. Creamer will continue teaching Language Arts to fabulous students and will remain working with Dr. Fick in the library this year. Dr. Fick is thrilled that
Ms. Creamer will bring her enthusiasm for reading to the library this year. We are eager at the prospects of interesting projects this collaboration will bring.
Fiver the Library Cat
Montgomery Middle School Library is lucky to have a Library Cat this year. She is a Ragdoll cat named Fiver that belongs to the librarian, Mrs. Fick. Ragdoll cats do not usually cause humans allergies like other cats because they do not have an undercoat. Fiver does not have front claws, so she does not scratch furniture or people. She is very curious, likes to play, and improves the environment of the library. A school environment provides opportunities for fun, reduces frustration, and is a positive structure for children so they have every chance of developing emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Human-animal contact can have positive effects on physical health, can increase social interactions, promote happiness, decrease loneliness, improve morale, decrease depression, and prompt relaxation.
We had an awesome time listening to guest readers orally read Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children on Thursday, September 15.
On Saturday, October 22, Dr. Fick and Ms. Creamer took 26 MMS students to the Tweens Read Book Festival at Sam Houston High School in South Houston. The event was for 5th – 8th grade students and the purpose of the festival was to celebrate and promote reading. The free event included keynote speakers, 32 authors in panel breakout sessions, books for sale, and author signings. The MMS students were joined by some students and librarians from MIS and MJH. Children and adults had an awesome experience that excited them about reading.
Dr. Fick asked for help from the First United Methodist Church to teach knitting and crocheting and they came through with the help she requested. Ladies from the FUMC have been giving lessons on knitting and crocheting to students in the library after school. Everyone is having such a good time, they decided to make it a club! Watch for further details in January when the Knitting & Crocheting Club opens up to new members.
