Welcome to 6th Grade Advanced Math!

As always, I am excited to teach Advanced Math and watch my students grow tremendously, as they begin their Secondary level education.   Please be sure your child is logging into the correct math book since we will be working out of both the 6th and 7th grade books.. I have taught mostly math over the years, including 8th grade Pre-Algebra and Freshman Algebra 1.  I was also a counselor for 5 years.  I have earned my Bachelor Degree in Education and my Masters Degree in Counseling. I live here in Montgomery with my husband, son, who graduated from MHS in 2017 and is now attending UT Austin!!  Hook Em!! I also have a daughter who will be attending Texas State this year as a Freshman.  Go Bobcats!!!

This year your child will learn more in one year than they are used to completing.  They will work through the entire 6th and most of the 7th grade books by the end of the school year.
Our PreAp classes are designed to challenge the students and require dedication, hard work and a desire to learn beyond the general curriculum.
We do not accept late homework, this is a department policy, and we do not give extra credit to improve grades.  We are here to help them in every way to make the adjustment to the secondary level.

*Please be aware that plans on the calendar will change depending on the needs of the students. Encourage your child to keep up with changing dates and assignments.

I am in my classroom every morning for help with the objectives we are studying.
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to email me at jennifer.morgensteren@misd.org and I will respond as quickly as I can.  They will do great!!
As always, thank you so much for your support.

It's going to be a Great year!

An overview of 6th grade math:

  1. Homework will be assigned Monday - Thursday of each week. Homework will be presented in a variety of forms; paper copy, online practice, studying of notes, etc.  Late homework is not accepted. Each six weeks the lowest homework grade is dropped and not calculated in the student’s average.

  2. Extra Help: Any help that is needed on current objectives, or questions on homework, is available on Tuesdays from 2:40 - 3:30. Students MUST have something to work on or specific questions regarding what is being taught.  If students need extra support with the concepts being currently taught, it is their responsibility to attend tutoring sessions.  Please be sure you are on time to pick up your child.  Teachers do not wait with students.

  3. GRADING PER SIX WEEKS:

    65% - Tests and Projects (a minimum of 3)

25% - Daily Quizzes and Class Work (a minimum of 8)

    10% - Homework (a minimum of 8)

  4. HELP AT HOME: If your child struggles this year while completing an assignment at home, please visit the “digits” website mymathuniverse.com for helpful videos and extra practice once students receive their Pearson login. You can also Google the math topic your child is studying (ex. How to Multiply Decimals). Sites such as teachertube.com and khanacademy.org provide very helpful instruction and videos.

  5. COMMUNICATION: Please feel free to contact us via phone (936 276-3300) or email throughout the school year.
