Whitehead family
Welcome to 8th grade science ! My name is Melanie Whitehead , and I am very excited about this upcoming year in science. This is my 17th year to teach and I enjoy , in particular, teaching junior high students. I have always felt a calling to teach and truly love my job.  I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in education from East Texas Baptist University. My husband and I have three daughters, Abigail ( age 13), Aleah (age 11), and Ashlynn (age 8). Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with family, admiring the outdoors, reading a good book, singing, and cooking .

I anticipate great things this year for my students ! I believe that learning requires many different factors. First and foremost, teaching begins with a relationship of trust and respect between teacher and student. A positive learning environment must be present so that the students feel safe and are encouraged to progress forward. A teacher must make every effort to learn his/her students, understanding who they are, where they come from , and where they want to go.

As for the responsibility of students, he/she must become involved in the the learning process, making every effort to strive for excellence. My goal, as a teacher, is to instill within my students a desire for learning and a willingness to always give their best !  I look forward to a great year with your child.
