Howdy!

My name is Paula Walding, and I am your child's English/Language Arts teacher!

This is my 13th year teaching middle school.  My first 12 years were in Houston for Cy-Fair ISD.  About a year ago, my husband and I decided we'd had enough of big city craziness and decided to move.  We finalized our move to Montgomery at the beginning of September, and we couldn't be happier!

My husband, Jason, and I have 2 beautiful girls. Jordan is a 6th grader here at MJH; Lilah is a 2nd grader at SCE.  They are loving their new schools and our new adventure.

I teach middle school by choice.  I feel like part of my job as a middle school teacher is to prepare your child for high school. I like to say I'm tough but fair.  I'll do anything I can to help a child be successful as long as that child is willing to put forth the effort, I'll do whatever I can to help.  I am here to support you as a parent and your child as a student.

If you have any questions, please email or call ANYTIME~! I'm always here to help.

NEW READING GOALS ARE ESTABLISHED EVERY SIX WEEKS. THERE ARE NO CARRYOVERS FOR POINTS EARNED DURING PREVIOUS GRADING PERIODS.

Each six weeks, students' independent reading grade is an average of the following 2 grades:
    (1) Book Goal Met: their percentage progress toward their individual points goal based on          their reading levels.
    (2) Test Average: the percentage of correctly answered questions on the reading                         comprehension quizzes.

Each week I may update parents on their child's progress toward the six weeks end goal through the "assignment" titled: Midpoint Goal. This does not affect their grade in any way due to the way the Midpoint Goal category is set up in Gradebook.

The FINAL independent reading grade is 12% of students' six weeks course grade.

If a student is not making progress toward their goal, that 12% can reduce a student's average by more than a letter grade and often catches parents by surprise since it is not taken as grade until the very end of the marking period.

The Midpoint Goal category is a way to give parents a timely heads up on student progress before the last week when the actual grade is calculated into the course average.

Here is a list of books I have read this year! (Along with my summer reading)
