I am excited to be teaching 6th grade social studies at Montgomery Jr. High
School. In 1980 when I first graduated from college, my first position was
teaching 6th grade social studies at Montgomery Middle School. I taught here
for five years in the early 1980s. If you were living here at that time, then
perhaps I was your teacher also. Since then I have taught in some very
unusual places including a maximum security prison, a mental hospital, a
school for teenagers with severe behavior problems, and also an alternative
high school. In addition, I was principal over discipline programs in a
nearby school district. Now, I am excited to be back where I began, teaching
social studies to 6th grade students.
It is my goal to help my students broaden their horizons and learn more about the world that we live in. I have been fortunate enough to travel and live in some very unique and beautiful places. When I was 18 I spent six weeks on a youth exchange to Sweden. In 2013 I was honored to be selected as one of only 40 teachers from the United States to participate in an educational and cultural tour of South Korea. In 2015 I was fortunate enough to spend three and a half weeks touring Italy and Greece. This past summer I spent another 3 1/2 weeks touring through Eastern Europe. I have also lived in the Seattle area for nearly a decade. I want my students to have a better understanding of the people and places that we share this planet with. I love living in Montgomery, I want my students to gain an appreciation of how fortunate we are to enjoy the good life that we have here. Beyond that, my goal is also to develop good students. My doctoral dissertation was a study of dropout students in the state of Texas. I am very motivated to give my students the tools that they need to be successful in school
I require my students to have a 3 ring notebook or a 3 brad folder for my class. All assignments are returned to students 3 hole punched. This binder will help them to keep their assignments in order. I apologize that this was inadvertently left off of the supply list. It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on this binder. I priced them at Wal-Mart for less than one dollar. Thank you for your cooperation.

Just before each test I show my class a short comedy clip. I call it a Pre Test De-stress. The idea is to help them relax a bit before they take the test. Usually the clips are very old. I enjoy showing them clips that they likely haven't seen before. Some students have asked that I post the video so they can show their parents when they get home, so here they are. Enjoy!
