About Me
Welcome to Mrs. Waller's First Grade class! I am very excited for my second year at Lone Star Elementary! I taught Second Grade for two years at Parmley Elementary School with Willis ISD, and joined Lone Star Elementary School as a First Grade teacher in 2018, and I am very excited to teach First Grade again!

I spent two year of college at Lone Star College, and then transferred to Sam Houston State University where I received my degree in Education in May 2016. I live in Montgomery with my husband, Phillip and we have two dachshunds, Bruce and Dixie.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child, and spending the school year exploring and learning with them!

Stay Informed:

All parents should receive an electronic newsletter from Dr. Bartlett each week via email. If you do not get these, please touch base with her at

catherine.bartlett@misd.org

Previous newsletters can also be found on her website.  We want you to stay informed and connected!!

Stay Involved:

PTA meetings are typically the 1st Wednesday of each month at 8:45. All parents are welcome!! We love our volunteers!! Parents support our school by their actions here, at home, and through positive words. We appreciate your partnership with our school and staff!!

What is a Tribe?

Each homeroom class is part of a vertical Tribe that spends a day together once a month. On their special day, the K-5 students will have a variety of leadership opportunities, learning activities, and enjoy lunch and recess and CAMP together. Parents are welcome to sign up to help volunteer for lunch duty on Tribe days and see the leadership and collaboration in action! Students and teachers will wear their colored Tribe shirt on these days. Be on the lookout for specific dates in our LSE News and Notes newsletter.

Tribes: Volcano, Sun, Valley, Star, River, Fire

The Leader in Me: Great Happens Here!!

We are honored to be partnering with the Franklin Covey Organization to begin the LEADER in Me transformation with our Lone Star students!! We will be sharing information and opportunities throughout the year.

As a daughter, teacher, wife, I am very excited about how this can transform our lives and enrich and empower us all!! Thank you so much for selecting this program for us to have at LSE!! Great choice!!!

First Grade has Lunch at 11:30-12:00. If you are coming, allow time to get checked in and have your driver's license. First Grade has Recess following lunch from 12:00-12:30.  CAMP is from 1:50-2:35.

SEM Schoolwide Enrichment Model

Our Schoolwide Enrichment Model takes place on Friday afternoons. Students choose their E-Track course and learn about the topic of their choice with students who share the same interest. We really enjoy this opportunity to spend time with different students in our grade level.

Instructional Gardens

The gardens at the front of our campus are not landscaping. We have several different outside learning areas for our students, including herb, rose, bluebonnet, sunflower, vegetable, and butterfly gardens! Our students have hands-on science lessons directly related to their grade level curriculum throughout the year with Mrs. Stephanie Baker, a Master Gardener from Ready to Grow Gardens. Our PTA supports this important initiative, and parents are always welcome to stop and watch a garden lesson whenever one is posted on the calendar in our newsletter. You will walk away with new information, guaranteed!

Attendance

If your child is absent, please send in a note within 48 hours of their return to school. If a doctor's excuse is unavailable, parents should write their own letter. Students arriving after 8:15 are counted tardy unless they have a doctor's excuse. Parents, please escort your child to the front desk if they are late.

Transportation Cards

Every student has a card with his/her name on it to use as an "exit ticket" when they leave our building at dismissal time. This helps our staff quickly determine how a child went home (bus, daycare, car rider, parent walk up) in case there are any questions.

Change of Transportation

Change of transportation must include the student and teacher name. You will email the changes and a picture of your I.D. to lse.transportation@misd.org

Lunch Visitors

Guests visiting at lunch must bring their license, wait for their V-Soft sticker, and eat lunch with their child at the Visitors' table in the cafeteria. Visitors are not allowed to provide food to students other than their own child or to invite other students to sit with them. Parents, please hug goodbye and exit the cafeteria 5 minutes prior to the end of lunch so your child can join his/her class for dismissal. Guests may not accompany students to recess.

***Fathers serving as Watch DOGS may be asked to join the classes to help with recess duty on their day of service.

Birthdays

Every child will choose a book from our PTA for their birthday at the end of each month. We are so excited to give the gift of reading to our students! Thank you, PTA!! We will also have our students introduce themselves and join us for morning announcements and Pledge of Allegiance on their special day. Summer and weekend birthdays will be recognized as well, and everyone will receive a small prize.

Please do not send class treats to celebrate your child's birthday as we have students with allergies and other nutritional concerns. Your child's teacher will help you with a class directory so that you can send invitations as needed instead of passing them out at school.
